About

Congratulations, you’ve found my site on the internet!

And now you want to know who Nicole Beckley really is. As Abraham Maslow would have probably agreed, you can’t really know me until I’ve completely self-actualized – and I should probably take a nap first.

But since we don’t have that kind of time I’ll go ahead and tell you a little about myself. I’m a writer, editor, performer, and businesswoman. My writing has appeared in the New York Times7x7Tribeza, Austin MonthlyThe Onion AV Club, SPIN.com, and many other places.

I'm currently at work on a thematically-linked short story collection titled "Perfect Miss."

I’ve also been a writer for “Over The Lege,” a political satire show specifically focused on the Texas Legislature, that aired for two seasons on Austin’s public access channel 10, and had three runs of sold-out theater shows. (Yes, I wrote a sketch performed by Wendy Davis.)

On stage I've performed improvised one-act plays with the perilously good-looking Local Genius Society, bent minds with the multi-genre narrative improv group The Library, and unpacked highbrow intellectual topics through sketch comedy with the group Comedy Bazaar. I've previously appeared in the B. Iden Payne Award-winning improvised productions "The Suitcase," at the Institution Theater, and "Manhattan Stories," at the Hideout Theatre in Austin, Texas.

Some fun facts:  I graduated from Stanford University in Urban Studies: Architecture & Urban Design and Communications.  I spent time as a field show writer for the Stanford Band, and as a consequence, once rode inside a fake zamboni across the Cal football field.  I worked as an editor and film reviewer for the Stanford Daily’s Arts & Entertainment section, Intermission, and previous to that, I worked as the editor and film reviewer for El Paso High School's The Tatler.  Previous to that, I did a lot of middle school journaling. I’d be more than happy to make myself available as a writing consultant for your TV commercial, sitcom pilot, graduation speech, book dedication, intervention letter, or wedding ceremony. I hope you feel like you’ve gotten to know Nicole Beckley a little better!
